Role Overview:

The Legal Transcription Proofreader will review and edit legal transcripts to ensure their accuracy and compliance with legal standards. The ideal candidate should have a strong knowledge of legal terminology, excellent language skills, and the ability to work independently in a remote environment. The successful applicant must also have an excellent command of English grammar and punctuation and the ability to understand complex legal documents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and proofread legal transcription documents to ensure accuracy and consistency in content, grammar, punctuation, and formatting.
  • Correct any spelling, grammar, or terminology errors, and ensure that transcripts are free of inconsistencies or inaccuracies.
  • Verify that all legal terminology, names, dates, and references are correctly transcribed and formatted.
  • Ensure the transcription's style and tone match the legal document's requirements.
  • Work closely with legal transcriptionists to address any issues or inconsistencies that require clarification.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive legal materials.
  • Meet assigned deadlines while maintaining the highest level of quality in your work.
  • Adhere to specific style guides and transcription protocols to ensure document uniformity.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of experience in legal transcription proofreading or related roles.
  • Excellent command of the English language, including grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Strong understanding of legal terminology and recognizing discrepancies or errors in legal texts.
  • Proficiency in working with transcription software and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Outstanding attention to detail and an ability to focus on fine details for extended periods.
  • Strong time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote setting, with strong self-discipline and motivation.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with transcriptionists and other team members.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working in a legal office or law firm is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with legal documents, including depositions, hearings, contracts, and correspondence.
  • Certification in legal transcription or proofreading is an added advantage.
  • Experience working in a remote environment and familiarity with online collaboration tools.
